Meet the Stams

Carl "Chip" Stam is associate professor in the School of Church Ministries at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He also serves as the conductor of the Seminary's Oratorio Chorus and as the founding director of the Institute for Christian Worship.

In the summer of 2007, Chip was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The story of God's faithfulness during this cancer journey is told at We are excited to now launch the Chip Stam Stem Cell Drive, please consider joining.

In March of 2002, he accepted a call to be the minister of worship at Louisville's Clifton Baptist Church.

From 1991-2000 he lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and served as pastor of worship and music at the Chapel Hill Bible Church. He was also the conductor of the Chapel Hill Carrboro Community Chorus and music director of Raspberry Ridge: The Chapel Hill String Camp.

From 1981-1991 he was director of choral music at the University of Notre Dame where he conducted the Notre Dame Glee Club and the Notre Dame Chorale.

Since 1995, he has enjoyed producing the Worship Quote of the Week, a Tuesday morning e-mail ministry that searches for interesting and challenging quotes about the nature of worship and prayer in the life of the Christian church. The site also contains a full WQOTW index of over 300 quotations.

Chip is married to Doris (34th anniversary on August 9, 2009) and has three children - Michael (30), Martin (29), and Clara (21).
